Tombstone Arizona in Second Life

Welcome to Tombstone Arizona, “The Town Too Tough To Die”, in Second Life

Please read the rules thoroughly before continuing your journey into our SIMs.

These rules must be followed at all times. This is a privately funded SIM, and we invite people to enjoy the facilities we provide. We reserve the right to withdraw this invitation whenever we deem necessary without further discussion. If you have any questions about the rules, please contact any Admin available. There is a list of Admins listed below.

We are a roleplay SIM, set in the year of 1899 in the town of Tombstone and outskirts.

Following the rules, you will find a section of "Extra (important) information" to help your roleplaying experience here in Tombstone.

I.    MEMBERSHIP REQUIREMENTS

In order to gain access to the roleplay SIMs, you must be a member of the TombstoneWild West Arizona group. To join this group, please contact any greeter via the Greeter Board, which can be found in the Tombstone Welcome Center.

Requirements to join the group:

·         Your avatar must be more than 2 weeks old

To join the TombstoneWild West Arizona group, your avatar must have been created at least 2 weeks before the date of joining.

·         You must read and agree to the Tombstone Rules

For the enjoyment of all it is important to read, understand and follow the rules. Admins will see to it that the Tombstone Rules are followed at all times. If the rules are broken, the Admins will take appropriate action (e.g. warning, banning, ejecting) depending on each case. Claiming you “did not know it was against the rules” is NOT an excuse.

·         You must wear late 19th century clothing

You must wear appropriate clothing for the time and setting of this SIM. You can find several ‘freebies’ ( free clothing) in the Tombstone Welcome Center. If these do not satisfy you, we have an entire SIM, Winlsow,  dedicated to shopping in good old Wild West style. While taking advantage of the convenient shopping in Winslow, Arizone for your Tombstone attire, be mindful: some of the clothing and items available, although western in theme, are more suited for off SIM activities.

·         You must purchase a copy of the Mad Thunder HUD

You can find the Mad Thunder HUD in the gun shop in the Tombstone welcome center. More information about the Mad Thunder HUD can be found below.

Tombstone also offers welcome classes to new members. We strongly encourage you to attend one of these classes. They are held each Wednesday at noon and 5:30PM SL Time.

II.    TOMBSTONE RULES

1. Wear a Mad Thunder HUD and Tombstone Flip Title at all times when in Tombstone

You can purchase the Mad Thunder HUD in the gun shop in the Welcome Center for only 10L$. The vendor will send you a box with a copy of the Mad Thunder Combat HUD, a Tombstone Flip Title, a free gun and 2 free gun belts. Rezz the box on the ground, right click and select ‘open’ from the pie menu. Then click ‘copy to inventory’. Open your inventory and look for the Tombstone Flip Title. Right click it and select 'wear'. Next, look for the Mad Thunder Combat HUD. Right click that and select ‘wear’. The Tombstone Flip Title will attach to your right pec (seen as transparent, over your head). The Mad Thunder Combat HUD is designed to attach to the top right HUD position.

When you have attached the HUD, you will see a tombstone shaped HUD in the upper right corner of your screen. It will display 3 hearts and, when a weapon is attached, show you how much ammunition you have.

Both the Mad Thunder HUD, Flip Title and the Mad Thunder weapons are updated from time to time. When you attach the HUD, Flip Title or weapon, it will automatically search for any updates and send you the latest version if one is available. Simply wear the new version and delete the old one.

WEARING the Mad Thunder HUD AND the Tombstone Flip Title is  REQUIRED for all our roleplayers, even if they do not wish to fight.

2. No Griefing

This applies to anywhere on the SIM, including open chat and IM.

Griefing is defined as actions against the SIM or people  that cause a real detriment to their playing experience. This includes the persistent harassment of others or roleplaying themes of poor taste that offend that person. Also consult the SL policy definitions of Griefing and Griefers. Expect an Abuse Report to be sent to Linden Lab immediately. This includes harassment to another using IMs.

Griefers will be banned from the SIM, and our Admins are not required to give reasons as this is a privately owned SIM.

3. No Random Shooting

Gunfights were an important part of the old Wild West, and there are many great stories surrounding shootings. Since we wish to offer quality roleplay on this SIM, there should be a decent amount of  talking before shooting (roleplay before gunplay). Your opponent should respond before you (try to) gun them down. Remember, the longer the talking, the better the story/roleplay, so work up to the gunfight!

Please note that Tombstone is NOT a combat SIM. Tombstone is a Wild West ROLEPLAY SIM. Shooting anyone without a proper roleplay reason is not tolerated here and can be considered griefing. You can expect to be banned from the SIM for at least 3 days.

4. Only Mad Thunder Weapons Allowed

In Tombstone, we only allow Mad Thunder weaponry. The Mad Thunder weapons can be bought in the Mad Thunder gun shop in the Tombstone welcome center OR in the Mad Thunder gun shop in Winslow.

Wearing and/or using non-Mad Thunder Weaponry can result in a ban from the SIM for at least 3 days.

We strongly advise that you refrain from tampering with the weaponry. This action is viewed as a serious violation. ALL weapons customizations are performed through Mad Thunder Developers, so drop a notecard to Adrian Wise for information!

5. Wounded & Dead

Now you may wonder what happens when you get shot. When you are wearing the Mad Thunder Combat HUD, you should see 3 hearts displayed on your HUD. When you are shot and get hit by a bullet (or other Mad Thunder ammunition such as an arrow, knife, tomahawk etc.), these hearts will disappear one by one.

When you have lost all 3 hearts, you will fall on the ground. You are then considered WOUNDED. Being wounded means you cannot shoot for 30 minutes. You should use these 30 minutes to find medical treatment. We ask that you roleplay as a realistic wounded man/woman. This means you shouldn’t be running around when you have just been shot. Just like in real life, when you get shot, you can hardly walk, and you are in a lot of pain.

If you are in need of MEDICAL TREATMENT, you can roleplay searching for a doctor/nurse, asking for someone  if they can run to the doctor’s office to find help, or even  crawl if the nature of your wounds permits. If you fail to find medical treatment, OR if you are shot within these 30 minutes, you will be considered DEAD. Being dead means you can NOT actively ROLEPLAY for 2 hours. You cannot interfere in ongoing roleplay, or  start a new roleplay.

You have a few options when you are dead:

·         You become a GHOST and roam around the SIM to OBSERVE roleplays. Again, you cannot participate in the roleplay.

·         You become a PASSIVE ROLEPLAYER. This means your dead body can be taken to the undertakers by someone and put in a coffin. You have to undergo this roleplay and do what the other roleplayer says.

·         You go to one of our OOC (Out Of Character) AREAS where you can hang out with others, or become one of Tombstone wildlife by reverting into an "Animal Avatar" for the 2 hours.

·         You can go shopping in Winslow

If there is no doctor or nurse in town, there are a few alternative healers you can turn to:

·         Apache Medicine man/woman

·         Gypsies

·         Outlaw Sawbones

·         Medics at Fort Huachuca

When you lose all 3 hearts, you will fall on the ground ( turn off any AO’s). You are then considered WOUNDED. During the next 3 minutes your avatar will lay on the ground "unconscious". Once the 3 minutes ends, you will notice a reset button on your HUD. Clicking "Reset" will enable you to stand. You can remain on the ground by not clicking reset, or by using a personal animation or pose to remain seated or laying down to make the wounding more realistic.

Your Tombstone Flip Title will automatically change to red text that says WOUNDED UNTIL XX:XX, where XX:XX represents 30 minutes from the time you were wounded. If you are healed within the 30 minutes, your Tombstone Flip Title will reflect who treated you, but you are still considered wounded and healing until the initial 30 minutes has expired. If you do not get medical help within the 30 minutes, you will die and your Tombstone Flip Title will change to white text that says DEAD UNTIL XX:XX, where XX:XX represents 2 hours from the time you died. We use red for wounded and white for death.

Q: There was this amazing gunfight (or The Apache raided the town!), so many wounded! How can the Doctors possibly tend to all of us?

A: Here in Tombstone, we consider the doctor’s office one of the few sterile areas in the wild west. Should you get to the Doctors office, your 30 minutes time is automatically extended while you wait for treatment. Kindly DO NOT LEAVE until you have been attended to even if you regained all 3 hearts. Leaving is considered cheating.

Q: IF I DIE do I need to make up an entire new character?

A: No! It was all a bad dream. Upon seeing your "killer" again, there just may be "something about that person" you don't like.

Q: How is it that being wounded is only 30 minutes and DEAD only 2 hours?

A: Time in Tombstone goes rather quickly. A real life 24 hour period is equal to 8 Second Life days in Tombstone. (You will notice the sun setting and rising often) This accommodates all of our players from every time zone around the world.

6. Stay In Character at All Times

We are a roleplay SIM. This means you have to roleplay all your actions and conversations. Since we are set in the late 1800s, you have to act accordingly. This is considered IC or IN CHARACTER.

Of course we know sometimes you have to say something which doesn’t fit your character in Tombstone. This is OOC or OUT OF CHARACTER.

An example would be when you have a phone call in RL, you must announce to the other roleplayers around you “I have a phone call, I will be right back”. OOC comments like “Wow dude, you’re a great shooter!” should never be made on the roleplay grounds.

We ask that you keep your OOC comments to an ABSOLUTE MINIMUM, in order not to ruin the roleplay.

However, when you do have to say something OOC, you can do this in 2 ways:

·         If you have to say something OOC to 1 person, it is best to send this person an IM.

·         If you have to say something OOC to multiple people, you announce it in open chat. You can do this by typing BETWEEN DOUBLE BRACKETS, like this: ((brb, phone))

      OR

you can use the OOC GADGET, which can be found in the Tombstone Welcome Center.

You just type /22 brb, phone, and it will display, for example, as: Jefke Kohime OOC : brb, phone (in green text)

We also have a few OOC AREAS in the SIM. These areas are clearly marked. While you are in an OOC area, kindly follow the guidelines you receive there, mainly: do not interact with people who are in roleplay, while you are in an OOC area.

If you find yourself needing to be in IMs or going AFK, please move to a discrete area (e.g.,inside a building, around the corner) that does not interfere with the ongoing roleplay in the SIM.

7. Wear Clothing of the Era

We are a roleplay SIM set in a Wild West town in the late 1800s. This means you have to be properly dressed (modest, for example, no skin from the top of the breast line to the knees)  while you are on our SIM.

You can find some western outfits FREE OF CHARGE in the Tombstone welcome center. If these do not satisfy your needs, you can find several shops in the Tombstone Winslow SIM where you can purchase western outfits.

No modern clothing will be allowed! There was not a lot of skin shown in public, especially by women, so cover up please (men too did not walk around shirtless in public).

Make sure your accessories are in era too.

8. No Shooting at the Unarmed, Animals or Children

You cannot shoot at the unarmed, animals or children. Even in the Hollywood movies, the outlaws rarely shoot at those who don’t have a chance to fight.

Wearing the Mad Thunder HUD does NOT mean you are armed.

Firing at the unarmed, animals or children on purpose can be considered RANDOM SHOOTING and/or GRIEFING.

We do have a special group of ANIMAL AVATARS that CAN be hunted or shot, and have a title tag indicating such. These animals are in the group “CALL OF THE CANYON”. Please IM the player for verification BEFORE engaging in gunplay with this group.

9. No forcing actions on the unwilling

Respect other's limits. If someone doesn't want to RP something that's out of the norm, please respect their limits. On the flip side, this really isn't happening to you so try to be creative and RP it out. And remember, if you die, 2 hours fixes everything.

10. No Flying

You are not allowed to fly in the SIM if you were not given the ability to do so. Even if you have a bird avatar, you have to wait to fly until you have permission from Adrian Wise.

11. Tombstone Group Chat

The main Tombstone group chat (TombstoneWild West Arizona) is for important and authorized announcements related to the SIM and for seeking help from Admins.

If you want to have casual group conversations with other members, please join the Tombstone Chatter's Chat Group or go to IM. It keeps the non essential group chatter out of the main group and makes a better experience for our 3500+ group members.

If you continuously ‘spam’ the group chat, you may be removed from the group (and the SIM) for at least 3 days.

12. React to the HUD

When you lose a heart on your Mad Thunder HUD, you should react to this. You can roleplay having an injury, for example, a flesh wound or a bruise.

This does not mean that when you see a message like this: “Ivory Peacemaker (Right Handed) 2.6: Jefke Kohime has drawn a weapon!”, you immediately have to draw your gun as well and start shooting!

13. Do not teleport in or out of a roleplay scene

If you know you have to leave the SIM soon, do not start a new roleplay and teleport out in the middle.

If you are involved in a roleplay scene, and must leave, we ask that you roleplay out of the scene and find a DISCRETE AREA (e.g., inside a building, around the corner) to teleport from. Should a "friend" have offered you a teleport and you find yourself in the middle of a scene, kindly walk off the scene until the appropriate time to enter.

14. No RAPE storylines

We do NOT allow any RAPE story lines. Kindly do not suggest or imply it. Please start off right by omitting it from a backstory. This is our choice. We feel there is much more room for creative role play than a rape scene.

Kindly visit the Gals at Dutch Annies for a pleasant distraction.

Rape scenes or dialog WILL result in an immediate ban from the SIM.

15. You cannot read the names above someone’s head

You cannot read names or character group tags that appear floating atop each Avatar.

SEE AND HEAR ONLY THINGS YOU WOULD BE ABLE TO SEE OR HEAR IN REAL LIFE. If you have to use camera controls, you are probably seeing something you couldn’t really see (e.g. someone on a roof, or behind a wall). If a character “whispers” or “thinks”, don’t “hear” it unless you are suppose to.

Seek this information through roleplay!

16. Wear an authorized and visible Tombstone group tag

We ask that you wear an official Tombstone group tag while you are on the SIM.

Official groups in Tombstone are those who have Adrian Wise or madminxmag Vandeperck in their membership list. There are also a few sanctioned Tombstone groups. If you wish to create a new group, please contact Adrian Wise first!

17. Voiding Roleplay

Please do NOT VOID a roleplay, unless you have the approval of an Admin. We ask that you go to every extent to avoid this. Even when you have been shot with no roleplay, we ask that you go along with it and play it out.

18. No shooting in church, doctors offices or Dutch Annies

Churches in Tombstone are sacred. We do not allow any shooting in a church or a convent. Rules of "Sanctuary" apply. A bad guy may retreat into a church or convent and MAY be granted sanctuary, but only if there is a member of that organization to assist you in role playing it.

Doctors offices located in Tombstone, Bisbee, Fort Hauchuca and the Apache Medicine Hogan should be considered as NO WEAPONS ZONES. Role playing by healers is detailed and dramatic at times affording your character the first step to rejoining the game. Please react to being healed and not consider this a place for revenge.

Dutch Annies is a no armed roleplay area. No shooting here; you might scare off the girls! Should you have a role playing idea which may involve one or more of the girls, kindly IM a Madame with your idea for approval and make it worth it! These ladies are high spirited role players (and good shots!).

19. Do Not Enter Private Property

Do not enter a rented house, tent or any other private property without the renters consent. Entering private property may result in a banning from the SIM for at least 3 days.

22. Background Stories

We encourage our roleplayers to come up with a background story for their character. Here are a few suggestions on how to create a background story. Examples of background stories can be found on our website (http://www.tombstonearizona-secondlife.com) in the forum section OR on our online community at http://tombstone-az.ning.com.

A good way is to consider what your parents did, where are they from, what skills did you learn before arriving in Tombstone. You basically make up this background.

Rich or poor? Fiendish or kind? Young or old? Good, Bad or Ugly?

Why am I Here?

A deep philosophical question but in Tombstone again you decide why. Are you looking for the love of your life or are you a wandering soul? Are you seeking employment and fortune far from home or looking for a new place to settle down? Are you on a mission, looking for someone for any number of reasons? Are you seeking to swindle lie and cheat your way through another small town? Are you just exploring or stopping off before continuing further west?

What do I do?

The best thing to do is to meet greet and make your own adventure.  Many apparent roleplay games provide a constant drip feed of what to do but the real art is making your own name and meeting people. Meet, form friendships or enemies and enjoy yourself! Also consider if any roles in town might suit you.

23. Child Avatars are Welcome

We welcome child avatars in our SIM. If you are a child avatar, please read the Tombstone Kids rules we have set for our children.

Children were an integral part of life in the old west, and unlike today, children were EXPECTED to do chores and work hard. Although they were very responsible and mostly obedient, they were still children, and struggled as all children do with maturity, limited attention spans, restlessness, and the natural aspects of growing into an adult.

Click here for Tombstone Kids Rules

24. Animal Avatars are Welcome

We welcome animal avatars in our SIM. If you are an animal avatar, please read the rules we have set for our ferals (animals).

Let’s be perfectly clear on this first fact: FURRIES are NOT Animal Avatars. FURRIES are PEOPLE.

Here is the second most important fact: Like any other roleplayer in Tombstone, animal avatars must wear the Mad Thunder Combat HUD. There are no exceptions to this.

Click here for Tombstone Animal Rules

25. No Fantasy Avatars

We do not allow “fantasy avatars” on our SIM. We ask that you dress and act as any normal human.

This includes furry avatars and ‘Nekos’.

You do not have any super natural powers and, for example, you cannot be a visitor from the future or distant past.

26. How to Emote

In a roleplay SIM, you ‘emote' all your actions, going from scratching your nose to shooting someone.

For those of you that don't know how to "emote", that's pretty simple!

You type in your chat bar "/me is typing something" and then press Enter.

You'll see it will show, for example, as "Jefke Kohime is typing something" in chat.

27. How to Shoot

To begin, you already would be wearing the Mad Thunder HUD (which is required). You can then attach a Mad Thunder gun, rifle, etc.

To draw or unholster the gun, you must click the holster. Then you go into mouseview (close your chat bar and press ‘M’, or View > Mouselook).

You can now aim at the avatar you wish to shoot and left click your mouse. To leave mouseview, press ‘Esc’. To holster your gun, click the gun.

Remember, you have to roleplay your attacks!!

28. How to use the Flip Title

The Flip Title comes with your Mad Thunder HUD (and is also available in the Tombstone Welcome Center in a separate vendor). As already stated, the Tombstone Flip Title automatically indicates if you are wounded or dead. You can set your Tombstone Flip Title (when not wounded or dead) by typing the format:

title color text

For example:

title yellow Masked Stranger  or title white Disguised as Cavalry Soldier

You'll see the floating text above your head.

To turn off the FLIP TITLE, you would type

title off

Kindly refrain from adding too much information on a flip title. Detail that should be role played are fine examples of what NOT to type, such as AGE, MOOD etc.

Some groups use the FLIP TITLE to signify something unique about them (for example, Apaches wear their native name in red, Cavalry rank in blue, Outlaws in cyan, etc.).

29. Rules of Surrender

If someone armed role plays an encounter with you and you are unarmed or refuse to draw a worn weapon, you are considered surrendered. You cannot be killed but SHOULD COMPLY as you would with a real person with a gun to your head.

30. How to Rob the Bank

Like any other town, Tombstone has a bank. Outlaws frequently rob this establishment. Here are some suggestions for how to rob the bank (or any other shop in Tombstone):

·         Shout in chat ‘Alright give me all your money and you won’t get hurt!’. Shouting is important to make sure people in town know about the roleplay of you robbing the bank or shop

·         Make sure you are inside the bank or shop

·         Maybe follow it with a shout of ‘Now don’t bother following me or you may get hurt!”

·         Be prepared to get attention from the Law and maybe bounty hunters. And escape!

31. How to Snipe

Snipe hunt! Sniper fire is legal....but there are rules to it.

WARNING: There are NO Contract Killers, Paid Assassins or "hitmen"

ALSO: Choose your target wisely. Your target should be someone you perhaps argued with earlier (and has an idea he/she may be done in at any time)

When sniping, the sniper must EMOTE a minimum of five lines and SHOUT IT. The target must be within the 90 m shout distance. Examples of emote lines: "hides securely in the rocks hiding by brush, bearing down on the man who wears the black hat, knowing he is the one that shot her brother." "loads her gun carefully" "looks around to be absolutely positive this is the perfect time and place" "sneers coolly awaiting for the man in the black hat to turn slightly more" and "pulls the hammer of the gun back placing her finger on the trigger, awaiting the perfect moment to end his misery".

In the spirit of roleplay, someone thinking they are a target should NOT just start running for cover (UNLESS they clearly emote "I got a bad feeling about this" or something to that effect. Roleplay it out!)

32. Crime & Punishment

If caught in the act of a crime or accused of one, you will be charged a fine or be brought to jail.

The list of fines/jail sentences can be found in sheriff’s office.

You are not required to pay bail. You have the option of staying in jail.

Bail will be paid to be released from jail. A lawyer may be called to reduce bail or even have it waived, only if it is determined by the arresting lawman that a mistake may have been made. A trial will still be set and the arrested person must be present at the trial. ONLY a lawyer can reduce or have the bail waived and the custody will be given to the lawyer who represents the accused.

If no trial is necessary, no bail will be collected. This can be determined by the arresting lawman.

WARNING: If you roleplay a crime you must remain in the SIM until the roleplay is complete. If a bounty hunter or other member of Tombstone brings you in, the bail will be set at 100L for any crime and will be given to the bounty hunter or member responsible for your capture (lawmen are not allowed to collect bounty). You may turn yourself in and all normal bail and roleplay will continue as normal. If caught while trying to turn yourself in though, bounty will be paid and your bail will not be returned.

If you are currently out on bail, but prior to being released from your charges via trial, and you commit another crime, all bail fees will be doubled for each additional arrest.

If two charges are pending you will remain in jail on your 3d arrest until one of these charges are dropped or roleplayed at the trial and released. No bail will be set for the 3rd charge.

A trial is set and you may be given more jail time or even hung if you lose your trial. If hung, see death above. GOOD LUCK!

Crimes may not be committed against unwilling members. If they do not wish to participate, please find another target. We do ask all members to please participate in all roleplaying opportunities.

If you can't do the time or if you can only log on for a short bit and have to leave, enjoy your time, but don’t forget if you owe the jail time, pay it when you get back. Jail is fun and one of the best opportunities for other outlaws to come and break you out. This should, of course, be roleplayed! Try to encourage roleplays from others around you.

33. Living in Tombstone

Make Tombstone your home! We are pleased to have you!

You have several options:

·         You can rent a room in the Cosmopolitan hotel (Broken Rose) or La Posada Hotel (Tombstone Winslow) or Tortilla flats (Tombstone Sonoran Desert).

·         We have several houses and apartments for rent in town. Please see madminxmag Vandeperck for more information about these houses.

·         We have several rentals in roleplay areas (Ghenna, Apache village, etc.). Please note, these are reserved for specific roleplayers. A cowboy cannot rent a teepee in the Apache village!

·         We have several ranches for rent in the Tombstone Arizona Coronado, Tombstone Arizona Canyon & Tombstone Benson SIMs. Please look at the Real Estate shack in town (across the clock tower) for more information.

34. Apaches

Native American Indians speak their own language. Native Americans may speak with 'dashes', around sentences, --like this--, to denote they are using their own language. Unless you speak Native American you should not understand what is being said. Other languages can only be spoken if you actually write in that language (i.e. German, French).

If you wish to inquire more on this visit their area, where you will receive a notecard. PLEASE, entry into the Native American Village at the top of the mesa is by INVITATION ONLY. If you have chosen the clothing of a Native because this is your Role Playing interest, you may wish to contact another Native on the mesa for further instructions on how you may receive support from the local Tribes.
